That's typical Canadian......I know because I is one and we love the cold. But I cannot imagine for a minute doing a stunt like this. I am sure there is something we do not see in the foreground, like some open water or something (or maybe an ambulance standing by).
But the reality of it all, is that it is ccccooooolllllldddddd. The high today was minus 27 celcius, or about minus 17F. Couple that with a bit of wind and the temperature will feel like about minus 40 in a big hurry. Needless to say the old C170 is firmly parked in the hangar and might only come out should it warm up to something closer to minus 10 or so.
Hope the rest of the 170 world is not suffering quite so much.

Evidently the word "loonie" can refer to people as well as money up there!

I went into the water where a man had broken through the ice with his motorcycle. Even though I had on a wet suit and a military style life vest - - that cold sapped me so quick that I could not have kept myself afloat or survived without the extra flotation. That video is like some others put out there. Smacks of some trickery!

According to my bro-in-law (from Michigan).... that's not a trick. He's seen guys do that personally. Apparently the sub-surface of the water is somewhat warmer than the frozen surface.
Nontheless....I think they're ALL crazy! (After all.....he ain't so smart. He married my SISTER !!!!)
(And I suspect she's a lot colder.)

Re: Now this is TUFF
I've been in icy waters a couple of times. It's not something I would do on purpose.
The first time was followed by a mile walk out of the woods, (too much ice to continue paddling), then a 5 mile ride in the open back of a pickup truck.
The second time, I got back in the canoe and continued the race. (Not as much ice this time, but it was snowing).
Yes, I always wear a PFD.

Well maybe I am a hoser, done his more than once, once in a group dunk we were led to the hole by bagpipes. Some fortifying took place prior to the dip which resulted in an immediate contrast in clarity once entering the waters. Cold not so bad but the ice against cold skin leaves a nasty rash.

Some people move to Hawaii so they never have to be disturbed by such a scary concept.
