Finally on skis!!! First flight on skis today. Spent some time on Lake Champlain (Birthplace of US Navy) and at my home Lake Cossayuna. Thanks to those who gave input especially John Renwick for going to look at the skis in MN for me and Bill Ables for the nice deal on the prop. Sure is nice to have TIC170A!! Mark

He likes the positive-steering action he gets from a tailwheel.

I may look into a tail ski. For now the tailwheel is fine. Taking a friend up to Lake Champlain tomorrow in the 170. He is going to teach me about ice fishing and I'll teach him a littlle about flying. 35 and sunny forecast. Moderate for Mid Jan in these parts. Must be George brought some Texas heat up this way. Most ice fishermen tell me the most inportant tool is the bottle opener. Not with the plane.
Thanks for the compliments on how nice the plane looks! I took a friend up last fall. As he was climbing in he said it was like getting in a vintage sports car. These planes are great looking!
MEEE TOOOO...............Plus 5 and sunny .....no wind...what a beauty day.
First time I've flown it on land gear. Can't get over the difference in performance compared
to floats....sure makes for BIG grins.

The Tail ski subject can go round and round and then go round again. If you aren't in 4 or five feet of fluff you don't need one. Why did you leave the Brakes on?
So Tim, when you go flying at 50 below, is it safe to remove the cowling blanket before flight?

Hey! I am AT Lake Champlain today! (and until Friday!) I'm sitting in the Doubletree Hotel in Burlington, VT and was thinking of driving around the lake tomoroww to see Ft. Ticonderoga or some other sights. Where are you going, exactly? I'd love to see your 170 in person!

George, Sorry to have missed you when you were up this way. Historiclakes.org has some great info about Lake Champlain and Lake George. There are a few aerial photos of the Ticonderoga area and fort along with some history. Lake Champlain is a real treat on skis!!! Mark
