Senior Citizen Test

Post by GAHorn »

In one of the mass-emails a friend sent to me and 48 other "special" friends.... ... (don't you just hate mass-emails? .... and the lack of any personal touch when you realize you've been lumped into the same list as 48 others? ...and the fact you now have the email addresses of all those people? ...and so does any spammer who discovers any one of those individual's email inbox...who now has 49 VALID email addresses of people to deluge with spam?.... )

But I digress.

The real reason for this post is to amuse yourself with the following "Test" to see if you are truly a "Senior Citizen".

Now, to be fair, ...and to make the Test more challenging...I"ve altered it slightly. Instead of asking you what will Superman find inside the lead-lined box that the villain has handed him?..........which anyone except Ol'Gar easily knows...(he has no idea why anyone would give away a perfectly-good, lead-lined box!)..... I've changed the words to provide the answer to the original question, leaving YOU to figure out to whom the answer applies! (This doubles the test into one which also tests for "Senior Citizens with Alzheimers", which should weed out the ones who forgot what their STC was really for and so donated it to the Association.)

You have two minutes to finish this Test. You may NOT post your answers here! You must grade yourself and post the NUMBER of correct answers ...on your FIRST un-assisted attempt!

OK. Ready? Set? Go!

A TEST FOR OLD KIDS
01. After ________ saved the day and rode off into the sunset, the grateful citizens would ask, Who was that masked man? Invariably, someone would answer, I don't know, but he left this SILVER BULLET behind.
02. When ____________ first came to the U.S. In early 1964, we all watched them on The Ed Sullivan Show..
03 'Get your ________on Route 66.'

07. ______ makes the very best . . . . chocolate.'
08. __________ was America 's 'Ambassador of Goodwill.' Our parents shared this great musician with us, and an airport was re-named for him (thereby erasing from public-mention the name of a famous early-AVIATOR.) His name was Louis Armstrong. (And the country of origin of the famous aviator? ___________)
09. What takes a _______ and keeps on ________? Timex.
10 . ________hobo character was named Freddy the Freeloader and he always ended his television show by saying, 'Good Night, and '________ ________. '

14. We can remember the first man-made satellite placed into orbit. It was called ___________________. The second was called ______ and consisted of a hollow, _________.
15. One of the big fads of the late 50's and early 60's was a plastic ring that we never put on our fingers...we ____________around our______. It was called the ______ ________.

ANSWERS :
01. The Lone Ranger left behind a silver bullet.
02. The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show
03. Get your "Kicks" On Route 66
04. The story you are about to see is True
05. In the jungle, the mighty jungle, ....
06. Watusi
07. Nestle'
08. Satchmo, and United States. (Not France or Canada, as some have guessed, was the birthplace of Moisant, who died on the spot the New Orleans airport was created, when he was thrown from his seat-belt-less Bleriot.)
09. The Timex watch "takes a Lickin' and keeps on tickin' "
10. Red Skelton and 'Good Night and God Bless.'
11. Selective Service Registration Cards (incorrectly called "Draft" Cards) Bras were also burned. Not flags, as some have guessed)
12. VolksWagen (People'sCar") went by the names "Beetle" and "Bug", the "Peoples Car" promoted Adolph Hitler.
13. Don Maclean, and Buddy Holly
14. Sputnik (weighed 183 lbs), Echo, balloon (made of inflated mylar because the U.S. could not yet lift heavier objects into orbit.) The Russians claimed superiority in lifting heavy nuclear warheads atop ICBMs. What was not well-known, was the U.S. used the Echo satellite reflections to obtain the geo-physical location of the point-in-space necessary for targetting Moscow.
15. twirled it around our waists, the Hoola-hoop

My score: 14 out of possible 15. I answered "Draft Card" which is technically incorrect, in order to make this a "trick" question.

I'm not as old as either one of you :D Just barely younger than you Bruce...I missed 8 and 12 completely, (absolutely no clue) Missed 11 for the same reason as George ( even after the clue) some people can be coached and still screw up...Brad

Around 12 for me too, but even the other three answers were familiar after I saw them. I'll always remember seeing Echo pass over as about a third grader, and I did have a hula hoop, although was never coordinated enought get more than a few turns. Hard to think that having grown up in the 50's and 60's makes one an "old timer" these days... :(
