CSC Duats Wx Question

Post by DWood »

For all of you Pro Pilots out there:
I am heading to OSH tomorrow and checking DUATS.
Here is a copy of the synopsis for Alabama:
Alabama
North 1/2 ... 5,000 feet scattered. Widely scattered thunderstorms with
light rain. Cumulonimbus tops flight level 450. 10pm EDT (02Z) sky
clear, or scattered cirrus. Outlook: VFR.
{south, snow} 1/2 ... 4,000 feet scattered. Isolated thunderstorms with
light rain. Cumulonimbus tops flight level 450. 8pm EDT (00Z) through
10pm EDT (02Z), becoming sky clear, or scattered cirrus. Outlook: VFR.
Now I am from Michigan and I have seen snow, but the thermometer in my car today read 104.

South Alabama "snow" doesn't make much sense

I would appreciate the decode on that one

Thx,
Dan

Dan, if you use this forecast, no snow mentioned, you won't have to worry about prop alcohol and de-icer boots.

Thank John
I will leave the skis off and head for OSH
Looks like the only possible wx is the front between Chicago and OSH
Thx,

I got the same breifing as Dan but the only good weather ended up being between Chiago and OSH. Go figure.

Hope you got home ok. OSH was IFR this morning so I left late. Landed at Poplar Grove near Rockford WI to et the ceilings improve. Should take off again in 20 to 30 minutes and it looks to improve along the route
Good to meet you up there and let me know the details on VAA3 October fly in

Landed at NC35 at 7:16 Thursday night. Had 125 to 130 Kt ground speeds most of the way but had to backtrack and land twice (almost 4 hrs on the ground)to wait for weather to clear. Coming over the mountains just north of Bristol the ground speed picked up to 144 :D but then I had to descend to stay VFR and ground speed went back to the 130 range :( . I hope the rest of your trip goes smooth. It was good to meet you also. I enjoyed meeting everyone. Now if they could just do something about those misquotes that drive everyone inside at dusk! I'll email with the details for VAA 3 flyin at Camden. Always seems to be the Ercoupe's who have the most airplanes there. Be nice to get a few 170's there. By the way it was nice parking next to you so I could comb my hair in the morning.

Landed last night at 8:45 PM EDT. OSH was IFR until around 11:30 AM. Fastest ground speed was 121 knots. The ceilings were very low until southern Indiana then better ceilings with local storms. Saw one lightening bolt and 4 or 5 rainbows. It was good to land. Glad to have met you and hope to make it to the VAA3 fly-in.
