Case name tag?

Post by derf62 »

I have replaced my o-300 case, and need to understand how to go about a name plate up date. New case came w/o plate. I asked DivCo for my old name plate. Where can I read up on the FAA way to make this change or can someone advise?

Continental Data Plate

Post by 170C »

Several years ago when I overhauled my 0 300 B I needed to replace the data plate due to not much being legible on the orginal. I called Continental in Mobile and they had me send them some data (can't remember if I sent the old data plate or not?) & for a few bucks they sent me a new one. I would give them a call.

When I had my engine overhauled a couple years ago due to a broken connecting rod & resultant other damage,it needed a replacement case. I asked if we could just pull the data plate off the old case &put it on the new (used) case. Both the overhauler & my IA (who is now an FAA maintenance inspector) told me "NO!".
One reason, from my point of view anyway: suppose a defect is discovered in a certain run of crankcases, from serial number xxx to s/n yyy,and an inspection/repair AD is issued, applicable to those s/n cases. The replacement case may have been in that series, but since it's now wearing the data plate off another case, the owner wouild have no way of knowing that it was in the affected s/n series.
FAA,Continental,or Divco may know how to rectify the data plate situation.
