That was a very interesting video. They did not mention that they got the idea from the railroads. The railroad RPO's would pick up the mail on the fly at speed with a hook on the side of the RPO car and throw a bag off the train at the same time. This method had started on the trains in the 1800's and lasted to the end of the RPO's in the 1970's.

It's those other two dimensions involved in the aerial drop-off/pickup that make it interesting. It would be hard to miss with a train. All you have to do is remember to put out the hook. :wink:
