That's a very scary story. I understand filters on my panel-mount GPS, I have them. But how do you add a filter to a hand-held? And what about all the GPS units installed in cars? Where are the auto companies in this?

We're just using up our 'spectrum' at an amazing rate. These things keep coming up, and the 'fixes' aren't always satisfactory. I too, miss VOR's. May be indirect, but the worked well. A-N range, well I don't miss that.

ONe thing about VOR's... when the database changes.... all one has to do is dial in tne new freq and/or new course..... instead of havng to pay someone for data.

I've related this before. One of my good flying buddies business is radio spectrum. His business is knowing the FCC and federal regulations as well as radio spectrum and how to actually use it, what will work and what won't. I'd venture it a correct statement that he as consulted with all the major users of the spectrum from the government to the local wireless internet provider.

Not many weeks go by that he doesn't relate that most of the folks at the FCC do not understand the spectrum and they reclaim and sell spectrum to his clients for millions for an intended use for which they will never be able to use it. So it does not surprise me a bit to hear that a company has bought spectrum that their intended use will effect other users and their spectrum. The side with the deepest pockets will win except perhaps in this case to many other Federal Agencies will cry fowl and stop them.
