For all that have the slightest question about your fuel valve... Join the Club!
I've just received my quarterly 170 news publication and the article on the fuel valve is worth at least a 3 year subsciption! Many thanks to George and to all the others who have contributed their time and knowledge for the benefit of keeping GA safe and very alive!
All we need now is to determine the right color to paint our planes!

Joe, as the restoration on George's airplane ages, we are likely to see more of these articles from him. Though he flies a red plane, it has proven difficult to get him to disassemble and fix something on his 170 that just isn't broke and then document it. And then we would always be reading about the repair of a '53 B model which might not help help much if your flying a '48 with a different system. The fuel valve being a perfect example.
There is no shortage of space in our printed pubs. We are always in need of articles and articles with a maintenance slant are a bit more difficult to come by. It takes almost as much effort to document maintenance than it does to actually do the maintenance. The articles don't have to be as in depth as George's article was. It could be nothing more that a few pictures and words how you made a tool that made a task easier.
And to be honest we have lots of documentation here as well as printed that one could review and update as needed so that we could republish the article knowing it's not dated. Lets face it after all, these are 60 year old airplanes and the association has been writing about their upkeep for a long time. We've probably covered a subject at one point or another but is that information still good today?
CAUTION - My forum posts may be worth what you paid for them!

Note on that article: On page 18, the pictures at the top of the page, middle and upper-right, have their captions inadvertently switched. Note the grey-arrow pointing to the mounting nut partially obscured by the valve body. My bad, in not indexing the captions to the pics.
Also:...
I have rec'd several complimentary emails and calls commenting on this article. I'd like to pass-along something that goes on behind-the-scenes which likely went unnoticed in the production of this particular 170 News issue:
Has anyone noticed the fine-differences/improvement in the layout of this issue?
In the past our Exec. Secy, Jan Billeb has been instrumental in seeing to the many improvements in the quarterly 170 News, and she deserves recognition for that work.
In THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE the talents of BRUCE FENSTERMACHER have come to the aid of our exec. secy. ....Bruce has stepped up to the plate volunteering his time, and relying upon his past experience/expertise in PUBLISHING to "massage" this issue, rescuing it from obscurity, and get it produced in such fine presentable condition!
We have further improvements we can make, and we will all be working together to give the membership better pubs in the future...but WE NEED YOUR HELP in producing this quarterly magazine. What YOU might consider mundane or uninteresting in your daily involvement with your 170... is likely of GREAT interest to your fellow members. The story YOU have to tell...is what makes ALL the rest of us into a cohesive group of friends and enthusiasts. They can be about maintenance, a particular flight, or a recent purchase or discovery of new interest or anything else aviation-relatied. But, PLEASE send us your stories, including as many pictures as possible. Don't worry that you may not have professional writing-skills....We can fix that.
And always remember that when individual members submit their articles for publication ...that any personal experiences, practices, techniques, or uses of particular products belongs to the submitting-author and does NOT necessarily meet the approval of, or represent the opinions or recomendation of our Association.

I'll be putting the pages of that article in my IPC, alongside the other diagram... just in case. Thanks, George!
By the way, Bruce F. was also instrumental in getting my (one and only) article to match Jan's publishing format... us ol' guys are a bit techno-challenged, it seems.
