Long Range Tanks

Post by N2830C »

Ive been considering putting long range tanks in my 170B. Ive seen a couple options. The Javlin tank and the Flint tank. Whats the pros and cons of each. Im a little concerned about the Flint tanks as I cant imagine that putting that much weight out on the end of the wings being a good thing. Also, I havent seen where you can purchase the javlin tanks anymore.

The other option would be to change the wings out to 175 wings with long range tanks(This thought didnt last long).

thanks for your help

I'm not at my home (I'm off at Flight Safety - ICT) I can't give you the contact numbers, but the Javelin tank is still available, already approved on the type certificate, uses very little baggage space, and removeable should you wish to go on a trip without it. If I wanted additonal fuel, and if 19 gals would be sufficient, that's the route I'd go.

A good freind of mine just sold the Javelin aux. tank setup
out of his '57 180 for $750 (I think it was $750, something
close to that anyway). From what I've read, that's kind of
a deal, as I understand a "factory new" kit costs substantially
more than that.

Keep your eye open on the ads for 170/180/182 parts....
There's always someone out there who buys a pig of
an airplane (i.e., heavy, and full of junk) that wants
to yank all the junk out of it and make it a nice, light
flyer.
