Plans can change quickly
I reserved a parking spot at AirVenture Oshkosh and was looking forward to camping with the group again in 2011. (28 consecutive years) However, my wife, Sharon, was attacked by a hacked off old cow while we were working the herd on June 22nd. Broken femur, 4 broken ribs, 4 shattered ribs. After installation of lots of titanium perforated straps, screws and a rod, we took her home only to have to return her to ER early this morning back into surgery to patch a perforated ulcer caused by the pain medication.
So if anyone needs a parking place at Oshkosh, I doubt if I'll be using this one. I'll call Jay soon and let him know. In the meantime, we covet your thoughts and prayers.

Hi Lanny,
I'm very sorry to hear about your wife's injuries and I hope she recovers soon.
I am interested in your parking spot at Oshkosh as it looks like I am going to be able to go this year. I'll contact Jay if that would take any load off of you or I'll wait until you contact him; whatever is better for you.
Thanks,
Joe Persinger
PS- I'll PM you, too.

Well Lanny, I'm not an aircraft owner, not a pilot, never been to Oshkosh; but I can relate on the cows. Been there, got the "T" shirt and all the souviniers (where is my spell check when I need it?).tigger wrote:I reserved a parking spot at AirVenture Oshkosh and was looking forward to camping with the group again in 2011. George - we spent some time with you at the last Petit Jean fly-in (we made the curly potato chips).
Joe - I'll probably wait to give up my parking spot until all options are exhausted. I'll let you know if I for sure am not able to go and I'm giving up the space.
Del - I'd like to know more about your involvement with the Glacier Girl restoration. I worked on it some my self - fabricated the wing jigs for it.
Sharon is resting well and seems to be making good progress today. She's tougher than an old boot

Re: Plans can change quickly
I hesitate to ask as it is not really important to the end resulting injuries but is a "hacked off" old cow a mad or pissed off cow? I'm from the north east mind you and a large herd of cows might be those friendly cute 10 or so someone is keeping for who nows what purpose. When I think of herding cows I only know what I've seen in cowboy movies.
Once again I'm amazed I know people who live on long dirt roads, spend all day riding a tractor, and now I learn they herd cows.

I wasn't involved with the restoration. I went over to look at, and give a cost estimate of making some parts for the restoration. Compound curved skins; we have an english wheel. And some other minor stuff. The restoration was probably 90% complete when I had seen it.tigger wrote:Del - I'd like to know more about your involvement with the Glacier Girl restoration. In my cow herd if I get one of those, I usually without any hesitation no matter how "Good" a calve she has given you.......she is Mac and Don's before the sunsets....
Tell Sharon, I had one that never bothered anyone except my wife......helped her over the fence one day.....someone was eaten her for dinner the next

Lanny, as I related on the phone Sat. Ruth and I will certainly keep Sharon and you in our prayers. I hope Sharon makes a very speedy recovery and you are able to make Oshkosh. I know what an Oshkosh enthusiast you are having attended every year since 1983, or is it 87? Dave B

To all. Update on Sharon: Things seem to be improving. Reduced the pain meds. Walked several hundred feet today SLOWLY. Will be in hospital more days numerous tubes and wires and no food or drink til a suction tube is pulled out of her stomach (powered by a venturi, I think.
)
Bruce, re. the description of the cow, since I'm very slow on the keyboard, I dictated the first 2 posts to my daughter and she took the liberty to clean up my original P.Oed. description. Obviously, Sharon is doing better because I'm dictating this post to her and she's typing it in on her laptop laying in the hospital bed with a pulse oxymeter on her right index finger! Thanks for your prayers!! Lanny & Sharon
