Finally bought a 170B
I've been looking around the site for the past couple weeks reading up on the 170s and have learned a lot, I appreciate all the knowledge!!
I just got the 170 home last week. Bought it from a guy that was 88 and his dad bought a share in 1956. Has the original sales sheet, test flight paper, and the logs. Came with factory with heavy duty axles (at least the sales sheet says) but will be checking into that more before I find a pair of skis.

Beautiful plane and welcome to the 170 Forum. Don't know what state you are in, but be sure to hook-up other 170 owners in your area to learn all things 170 not posted on the forum
Getting together at local gatherings is a lot of fun. Hopefully we will see you at some future 170 Convention.

Its all original interior right from 1954 I believe, correct me if I'm wrong (except for the cherry pictures! lol guy owned a bunch of cherry trees and had a couple holes he wanted to cover). It is in need of a intercom and few other touch up things but I'm ok with that.

Barry,
A WORD OF CAUTION It appears in your interior photos the parking brake may still be hooked up. If so you need to disconnect it. George Horn has posted pictures on the forum of planes damaged due to parking brake issues.
Search the forum for the discussion and read everything carefully. Or perhaps others can chime in with the correct link. We don't want you bending the plane while landing with locked brakes.

You have a really nice looking 170. Thanks for sharing the photos with everyone. I suspect what I am seeing is light reflection, but you prop almost looks as if it were a wooden one. At a flyin I saw a plane where the owner had an artist with an air brush paint his metal prop to look like a wooden one. Couldn't tell it wasn't wood unless you touched it. I noticed you have one of those military spot lights attached to you overhead light panel. It caught my eye as I had, until about a year ago, the same thing. The factory lighting left a lot to be desired. I installed the LED bulbs as George Horn has done and it eliminates the need for the aux. light plus you won't be hitting your head on it. See George's threads on installing those LED's and see if you might want to do likewise. Also as you have time, give us some preformance data as well as engine model. Curious if you have the C-0300 B.

I did catch that the parking brakes are an issue, that was one of the first things I check. I plan on removing it before I get a free ride. Im out on business traval for two weeks in orlando so I have endless hours to read up on little upgrades that she needs and making notes. Can't wait to get home to spend some evenings in the hanger.
Light will be an upgrade too but is further down the list

The panel is laid out a bit differently as the apparent result of previous owner's preferences. (For example, the altimeter is located where the airspeed was originally located by Cessna.) The panel (and the rest of the interior) has been repainted and reupholstered in non-original fabrics and colors... (This is merely an example of how the word "original" can be applied/mis-applied....not a criticism of your airplane.)
What may be of interest...that aircraft's panel was originally a VFR installation. How do I know? The Cessna "bird" is located upon the floating panel...instead of on the glovebox door (where IFR panels had them located.)
Anyway... now you have a "hint" of just how much tedium in which one might become entangled when you begin to discuss "original".

From experience skis on a stock 170 leave a bit to be desired. The best setup (in my opinion) would either be straight skis or retractable skis. I have wheel penetration skis and they do create excessive drag from the opening where the wheel goes through. That being said - welcome to the 170 association. If you ever have the desire to head a bit east let me know as I am not that far from you.

I actually have been over there a few times, couple solo flights last year with our 182H. Hauled home some guns ....55 off them to be exact. Was a full load and interesting ride! I probably be over there again in a few weeks I'll look you up.
