Hello Group,
I have Happly completed the purchase of a 170B, Looking foward to getting some good advice to help me keep it flying.
First question of many---I would like to purchase Manuals( IPC,Engine ...) any suggestions?
Thanks
Ted
For manuals there are a few places to go. First the airframe IPCs are available free at http://www.micro-tools.net/pdf/Cessna/ which is kind of a bootleg site that someone is hosting making lots of Cessna manuals available.
McCurtian is a company that has digitized many manuals. They can do this because many of the old manuals were not covered by copy write. You can buy both the airframe IPC and the engine IPC and overhaul manuals from them. The will come on a CD and are very well done. I bought all my IPC and service manuals for both my 170 and Cub through McCurtian. The also have the Cessna Service Manual '62 and prior which is the closest repair manual for our aircraft that their is. Here is there website: http://www.mccurtaintg.com/
Lots of times there is just nothing like looking at a real manual and besides all the electronic versions I have I've also bought them all in hard copy.
There are a few companies that will sell yo reprints (copies) of the original manuals. Essco http://www.esscoaircraft.com/ and Univair are two of them http://univairparts.com/. I've bought a few of these reprints and while better than no manual the quality can leave a lot to be desired.
So the best way in my mind to get really nice manuals is to buy the originals. And those come up pretty regularly on on-line auction sites. I've bought several IPCs and a service manual this way. I've paid less than $45 a piece for them and while you never know what your going to get I've been very happy with mine.
Good luck.
CAUTION - My forum posts may be worth what you paid for them!
