I realize this is an aviation forum, but maybe, just maybe with all the expertise we have someone can provide a suggested solution to this computer challenged pilot I am running a Dell laptop with an HP monitor & am using Windows XP and do everything via Google. In the past have had no issues, but recently the size of post, emails, etc are too big to be seen without having to use the blue bar at the bottom of the screen to move the page to the right AND I have a black border across the top and across the bottom of the screen, thus I am not seeing the pages in the full screen view. I have gone into the control panel and into settings and changed the display settings using each of the 3 settings available (800 X 600 --way too large); 1280 X 768 (don't see the full page); 1280 X 800 (still not a full page). Any step-by-step help would be greatly appreciated.
Frank the resolution (800 X 600, 1280 X 768, 1280 X 800 ) should be set to what ever your monitor is. Of couse some folks use the settings to blow up or shrink the screen for special purposes. But you should like find out what resolution you monitor is ans put the setting at that and leave it alone.
As sdorange alluded to, you likely hit the zoom feature or set the font to a larger size. When you say your using Google I'll assume you mean your using the Google Chrome browser. Go to the upper right corner where you see the wrench symbol and click it opening a drop down.

Looking in the middle you can see the zoom level. Reduce the size of the zoom which is now probably higher than 100%.

Bruce, I am not sure what the monitor setting is or how to determine what it is. When the computer is getting started a box shows 1600 X 900 60mz ??? Right now hte problem of not seeing a full page without having to use the blue bar at the bottom of the page seems to have gone away as a result of using the suggestions mentioned earlier. I still have the border issues and the font size of these letters is much smaller than I like--need to be somewhat larger.
As far as Google Chrome, I have not upgraded to that as yet. Not sure I want to do so. Might be the thing to do, but I have been reluctant to do some of these upgrades as sometimes I wish I had the old ones back. What are your experiences with Google Chrome?
Sorry for all the postings on this subject, but using the Control - or Control + has allowed me to get the font size to a desirable level. Progress is being make Now to eliminate the borders that are restricting the size of the upper & lower screen Thanks again.
