Anyone here use an iPad in their 170?
Yoke mount, suction mount or kneeboard?
I just got myself an iPad2 and was pondering which setup I should go with. I held it up in front of the yoke and it is pretty big - blocks out the view of most of the yoke - if the yoke clamp arm was long enough, it might work - otherwise, I'm guessing kneeboard, but hoping I can find one that doesn't interfere with the yoke.
My previous setup has been:
-Garmin Aera 510 suction mount to left side of windscreen
-Yoke clip for my paper Jepps
-Thin aluminum kneeboard for copying clearance/ATIS..etc
I'm keeping the Garmin, but looking to use the iPad as an EFB.
Thoughts?

Re: Mounting an iPad in the 170
We had a fellow aviator, who fly's for DHL in a Caravan from DFW to Will Rogers in OKC daily and is a tech counciler for ForeFlight, give us a talk on ForeFlight last Saturday. He uses his iPad all the time and thinks highly of it (and ForeFlight--of course
). He also fly's a prestine C-120 and uses the iPad. I asked where he uses it in the 120 and he said he sits it on his leg. I think he has a curved devise that attaches to the iPad. He says he has no problems with it being in that location in the 120. If it will work in a 120 then in a 170 shouldn't be a problem. Of course if you are wanting to mount it semi-permanently then there is no good space in our planes. I have seen them mounted via suction cup to the left side of the windscreen. Good luck

I don't have mine mounted, just leave on the right seat and move it to my lap as needed. It very stable ( in it's case!
I love it, Foreflight is the best

Me too. I keep it on the right seat and move it to my lap as needed. Very rarely loses signal. And Foreflight is my favorite. It gets better with each update.

Re: Mounting an iPad in the 170
I have a Garmin Aera and an iPad as well.
The Aera gives me a line to follow, tells me when I'm about to break bravo and what the frequency is at my next airport.
Past that; I tend to look out the window and leave the ipad in the back seat.
IMO, the iPad is great for planning a flight and checking email but, not much use (and certainly no more useful than the Aera) while flying.
But, that's just me.

Re: Mounting an iPad in the 170
I made some leather bags filled with lead shot and fuzzy velcro sewed onto one side of the bags. Self-adhesive velcro hook strips were then placed on my knee board. The weighted shot bags hold the knee board securely on my knee but I can quickly put it on the floor or seat. If I did it over, I would put the fuzzy side on the knee board and the hook side on the shot bags.
When the Ipad 3 comes out I'm going to get one and put the shot bags on it.

Try this link. They make a good strap to hold an iPad on your thigh. Works well.
