George/Bruce, if either of you guys are on line and have your list of salvage yards handy I would appreciate you posting them. I am at work or I could access mine at home in a binder. A fellow employee, pilot friend had his yoke (plastic) break yesterday while in the landing flare. He is needing to either replace his pilot yoke or do both to get a matched set. His plane is a C-172, but not sure of which year------I think in the early 60's.
thanks, Frank

Re: Salvage Parts
Frank, did you look in our MX Library?
http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... =26&t=1419
(Does your friend also need a new seat cover?)
Plastic yokes are a problem....and break more often than not during landing. What a time/place!
Seriously, if your friend hasn't learned to get rid of them now... (Why would he replace only ONE?)

Re: Salvage Parts
Frank,
I'd encourage your friend to replace his control wheels with something other than plastic ones. The Aussies have an AD out against these things. Here is an NTSB report on them. I can send you a copy of Cessna Service Letter 62-44 and 64-8 if you are interested. In SL 64-8 they call for replacing cracked plastic control yokes with ones made from magnesium, p/n 0513166-1 -- only $1427.50 each
from Cessna. Interestingly, SL 64-8 says, "Full parts credit for cracked or failed control wheels will be issued through the Service Parts Return Program ... ." Good luck with that!

Re: Salvage Parts
You would think Lucky (ASD) would have tons of yokes for Cessna's, but my friend called him before I placed my post the other day and Lucky did not have what was needed. I saw my friend at the EAA meeting Saturday and as it turned out a co-worker of ours had a couple of excess C-150 yokes in his hangar and offered them free
They are the metal ones with a plastic coating on them which my friend said peeled off rather easily. The yokes are now in Stephenville being powder coated. He appreciated the list of salvage sources George ---Thanks.
