St Clair Regional Airport Closure on Hold.
Jan 1, 2013 arrives and no leases signed by hanger tenants. City Adm had sent letter to MODOT , State headquarters stipulating that City was going to send yet another lease request(2nd) and if no response by Jan 16,2013 . Aircraft were gong to be seized and auctioned off.
Dec 27,2012 letter from FAA arrives. Stops closure until city comes into compliance with all FAA grant assurances.
The message for owner/ pilots everywhere is that if your airport has FAA grants that are active; there is some protection deep in the language of FAA grant compliance rules.
WE hear that there are over six additional cities watching this procedure. Those cities have in mind closure of their airports. Will you be affected?
If you want to read some references to complex federal rules go to kilo39 blogspot.com.
Instead of a dramatic rent increase we now are going to experience a ROLL BACK in lease cost!!
FAA saves the day.

Glad to hear!
Perhaps we should all start finding every FAA grant available for our airports and help them thru the process

Re: FAA Letter Shows Up !!
The FAA saves the day for a while. In our area there are airports which are being run into the ground because they won't take grant money and they can close when any grant assurances run out. And there have been talks in some cases of repaying the grant monies or simply getting legislators to sneak a law allowing the airport to close without complying with the grant assurance.
