That logo was commonly referred to as the "bird". Cessna can provide an accurate photocopy to you.

Aryana,
It's Rusty..My '55 has the original bird decal still on the tail. If you would like, I can tarce it out and send you the copies so that you can get the actual size of the "bird". I will not have the airplane back for a couple of more weeks because it is back in its birth place (Kansas) getting an anual. Let me know if this helps.

I'd never have thunk that shooting someone the bird would be so difficult.

I've been known to give plenty of people the bird; I'd be happy to help in this instance as well.

I just couldn't resist.

While your making exact duplicates from the aircraft, the Association library could use a copy. (Don't forget to put a scale on the template so duplicates can be checked for correct size)

Check these out...http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtop ... =15#p74873

They can be resized or edited as required and cut from vinyl paint mask. These images are all traces from the pictures in those posts so I can't guarantee the accuracy, but they will be pretty close. They certainly looked the part on my plane when done.
edit: the 'Cessna' font with the bird is not an exact match for the original it was the closest I could get at the time.

If you haven't already solved the logo problem, Ive had great success working with Paul Howe at Moody Aerographics (http://www.moodyaero.com). With a good photo he can reproduce either a peel and stick or a paint mask that will fit perfectly. He "downsized" a '05 182T paint scheme for my 150K including tail logos and I was very happy with both the fit and the price.

Arash,
My airplane still has the original "CESSNA" on the door. However, it does have the letter 'R' with a circle around it reffering to the trade mark for Cessna. The R is located slightly below the A in Cessna. Keep in mind that it is very small and probably not visible in many pictures, but it is there. The "R" decal at last check was still available from Cessna. I did order this decal, but it was bigger than the original 1955 one.
I still have the original 170 script on the airplane and I will send you a traced copy of it when I get the airplane back. I hope to have it back within the next ten days. All the copies I make, I will send them to Bruce as well for the library information.
In regards to your 170 emblem for the insturment pannel, my hangar neighbor had a 56 172 with that emblem in it as well. You might want to check early 172's for that.
Hope this helps you.

Arash,

George posted a scanned copy of a 170 script stencil a while back. I'll try to dig it up, but I also have it saved on my computer. The only thing that would be missing would be a scale to denote the correct size. I normally don't trust a scanner to provide a 100% accurate representation of something being full-size.

I had thought about tracing it and putting it into a vector format for the use of the Association like I did with the 1952 B model graphics.

Ryan I just came across Georges scan of the stencil. Problem with it is as Rusty points out, there is no scale so it would be difficult to assure it was duplicated at the correct size.

Let's see what we get from Rusty. I may recruit you, Ryan to convert it to vector.

I've got quite a few original Cessna stencils and water-transfer decals. I'll try to devote a little time to getting them duplicated so others can have access to them. Any advice on the project is welcome.
