Working C-170

I've been wondering how many 170 series airplanes are still working for a living. I bought N1636D in the fall of 2002 to use on our pipeline patrol & Michigan DNR contracts In March, 2004 I installed a Lycoming 0-360-A4M engine using Harry Delicker's S.T.C. & a Javelin 18 gal. tank in the baggage compartment. With the bigger engine 36D met the USFS weight/h.p. ratio so I had it on our Pt. 135 certificate & Forest Service contract as well. The engine reached TBO in March, 2009 & was overhauled & is almost at TBO again. I'm building up a 0-360-A1A now to install along with a Hartzell 80" prop.

Duke started flying when he was 7 weeks old & turned 9 this year. He has almost 18,000 dog hours (7 to 1) in the 170 & our 180 seaplane. He is Operator Qualified for aerial pipeline patrol & carded as a pilot for the DNR & Forest Service.
