A380 first landing at SFO

This is pretty interesting to watch.



The pilots sit away from everything, no yoke, etc. Captain pulls up a keyboard once in a while to enter info but the plane does most of the work.....



The humongous A380 makes its first landing at San Francisco airport. It seems extensively automated. The air traffic controller gives them heading, altitude and speed, and they dial it in. Pretty interesting.



For best results go "full screen" on your monitor. It will seem like you are in the cockpit.

I share the sentiment and would always choose Boeing over Airbus given the choice, but how would I determine the equipment to be flown on a particular flight BEFORE purchasing a ticket?

PS: On our trip home from Convention, I had my first opportunity to be a passenger on a B-777 and my only comment is that Delta could save a lot weight by removing the concrete from the coach seat bottoms...

MOst of the flight listings describe the equipment, but in any case, the airline should be able to tell you.

As for the 380 video... imagine the situation if they had a need to make an emergency landing and the low number of airports available that might be able to accomodate that aircraft.... that video was on a fine, sunny day, into a large, controlled envirionment, using a 30-mile traffic pattern and computer-guidance, conforming to highly standardized operating procedures (SOPs) widely followed in the airline industry. It was a promotional video intended to ensure that nothing more exciting than the view should be shown to the public. And that airplane received special, individualized, treatment from ATC, etc., in order to insure it made it to the airport.
If you're not someone who regularly participates in such an environment, then it's quite interesting.
If you do this sort or thing for a living....it's pretty boring.

I'd rather have a rainy approach in a DC-6B or a 170.

EVA and Asiana pilots might beg to differ. Doing a CAT III auto land is probably easier than a visual approach into SFO. Check out the new ALSF-II lighting system there.

When taxiing to the cargo ramp at SFO we go by the Coast Guard station. I was told the ramp into the water there was used by the Pan Am Clippers. Now that was aviating!

Try Orbitz and then go to seatguru to pick a good seat. Or fly on Southwest. Very good chance you'll be on a B-737.
