New guy here...looking at 170's

I've attached a couple pics of an unidentified bracket that looks like it might be a rudder or flap? hinge bracket???

Those look like the station 228.687 bulkhead, p/n 0512108 onto which the aft spar of the horizontal stabilizer bolts to. Pages 38-40 in the 170A IPC, item 86. You are correct in that the lower rudder hinge is on that assembly.

Yes, the entire bulkhead assembly is Item 86, but in the illustration, it appears as if the bulkhead it'elf is Item 87.

I certainly hope you have an A-model Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) or we'll be deluged with pics of parts which cannot be identified. (Get a IPC)

If not, you'll need to buy a fully (and correctly) assembled airplane for reference...

I just happened to notice yesterday that the part drops right into the tailwheel bracket thats also in the pile of parts. Now I see how it goes....rear stab mounting point, rudder lower hinge and a convienient stiffener for the whole setup. I guess I'm going to need to buy a parts manual to figure out what parts I've got piled here though the
"post a pic and test the board" deal is fun too.
