What is the difference between the numbers on the tail and the numbers under the wing? (look at the picture in the original post, it will enlarge if you click on it) The second Cub with the tail number 33495 has a number on it's wing that ends with a 6!

That is a great picture. Ours was built in Ponca City, OK and test flown for 30 minutes on October 10th, 1946. the next log entry is 10/20 - 10/23, 19.2 yours ferry flight from Ponca City to Long Beach, CA. I love old log books!

counting the front row from the right, the first tail matches the first wing, and the third tail # matches the last 2 digits on the third wing.
the second one doesnt match.

you are correct. I saved it and then really enlarge it also and you can follow the strut down as well. The other interesting thing is why don't you see the right wing of the first plane? looks like the wing in second row is under the first row..........I'll go have a crown and coke and come back to it later..

It looks like the airplane has borrowed a wing from another fuselage? (The way they taxi into the hangar, tailgating each other so closely, it's no wonder they all up-ended when the leader had to stop at the wall!) They must have had another accident and swapped a wing.
Addendum: Or a borrowed rudder.
