So, what did I do? (Probably wrong, but, hey...)


I continued on the flight plan and about 10-15 minutes later I was able to contact Magoo Approach, who had my UFR flight plan. He couldn't understand how or why SOCAL did that.

Looking back on it, I should have at least called center to get an explaination, and I should have filed a report. But I didn't.

So will you where IMC and you where providing your one aircraft separation. And how where you doing that exactly?

I know you realize know it probably wasn't the thing to do. But you my friend where in an emergency situation caused by the controller and that should never have happened or gone unreported.

Yup, I agree with you 100% Bruce. I was very lucky to have gotten Magoo as soon as I did. I was actually quite a ways from them. I tell you what, though, during that 10 or 15 minutes I was sure sucking seat-cushion.

The biggest mystery was why I didn't report it at the time. I don't know, actually, why I didn't. This was a long time ago (1982 or there abouts).

If it happened today, I would probably sqawk 7600 and deal with it that way. I think that 7600 would work better than 7700, as 7600 would still give me protection, but a heck of a lot less paper work to fill out.
