new 170b owner

Post by C Riley »

new 170b owner. Shes a 1952 model, and a pretty clean bird. I guess my first mod is going to be bigger tires. Anyone have either the 8.00 or 8.50-6 available? I'm also in the market for a gently used radio and transponder. If it matters, I prefer some kind of digital flip flop radio.
If anyone is passing through SE Texas and running close to the beach, there is a bar/grill restraint with a dirt strip that I frequent a couple time a week for lunch. Not on the sectional, but if someone wants to drop in sometime, I'll publish the coordinates. Cheers,

Coda

I've had great luck with the VAL COM 2000.

or if you want an intercom too go for ICOM A 210

transponders who knows, all are too expensive.

What's the closest town or landmark to the bar&grill?

I had a Val Com TSO 760 that was absolutely the best radio I've ever had. I only paid about $600 for it brand new and never had one minute of work done on it in many, many years. It had an exceptionally strong signal and the clearest recption of any radio I ever had. I bought it to replace the big time, high dollar radio that crapped out for the third time in a matter of six months after repair bills coming to over $700. It was only a straight flip flop comm radio that replaced a King comm vav, but my hand held GPS gave me better dope on the VOR stations than the King ever did.

Welcome to the club!

It would be appreciated if you would post a comment about the beach bar/grill with the details in the $100 Hamburger South Central (TX, OK, AR, LA) section?

Willie-
You're forgetting you're a Texan now, maybe from a little ways north of Dalhart but still a Texan! We do need to work on that "north Texas" accent though, yah, you betcha.

Speaking of Texas when are we going to go visit that beach bar/restaurant and meet Coda?

When speaking about aircraft radios, another thing to consider is radio theft. I NEVER heard of anyone losing a VAL 760 TSO radio to theft. Radio theives apparently prefer the more expensive models.

Something tells me the Original Poster was not being completely forthright, as he's never responded to any subsequent posts...and never revisited the forums

Got it, Dubya!

I based my previous post on his log-on record and lack of responses:

He Joined (the forums) :Thu Jan 30, 2014 12:32 pm
He Last visited:Thu Jan 30, 2014 12:45 pm
...for a total of one visit, the day he joined, for 13 minutes. I doubt he's seen any of the subsequent replies, unless it's been with a different username.
