Did any of you see the CBS News program on General Aviation security and General Aviation's threat to national security. It was some of the most uninformed and biased reporting I have ever seen on TV. It was just trying to scare all of the general public who are uninformed about the realities of general aviation into thinkinking all "small airplanes" are a danger to the public and make them think there are no controls whatsoever on General Aviation flying. They didn't mention that any car or truck can carry much more explosives than the typical "small Plane". I e-mailed CBS this morning commenting on the program and suggest others do too. The AV Web site and AOPA site have links to the program and there are lots of comments on the Skywagons site.

AOPA has a good article on the program on their home page at http://www.aopa.org/index.shtml . Aviation Web at http://www.avweb.com/ has an article with a link in the article whitch takes you to the CBS News site. I think it is http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/01/ ... 3216.shtml You can e-mail CBS with your comments at evening@cbsnews.com . All of my Skywagon comments come to me on Yahoo Mail and I can't figure out how you can retreve them. You may see the program again on your local TV. Our local Chattanooga CBS station ran part of it again this morning, the most negative portions stating how bad and dangerous we are

When someone asks me about the danger of small airplanes being used as missiles I tell them about the 172 that a loonie flew into an office building in Tampa a couple of years ago with almost no damage except to the 172 and the loonie and about the B-25 that smacked into the Empire State Building in 1945 with relatively little damage to the building.
A small airplane, even filled with explosives is a very inefficient weapon compared to an 18 wheeler truck or a container on a ship.
FWIW,
Rudy
