8O Holy Cow!!
my tailspring stiffener U-bolt, part # 0510000-32 broke for my '52 170B.
I checked with Univair & another source and that little part is $139.00. Now this is absurb! Anyone know of other sources are alternatives as it is really just a u-bolt that is threaded at both ends.
I don't think I can just use 2 straight bolts and 2 plates as the bottom of the tailwheel bracket assembly has 2 rivets that protrude out and I don't think a bottom plate would fit well. At least the locking nuts are only about 20cents each.
Alternatives would be appreciated

I tried to look up the part # earlier on Air Repair and could not find it. Could they have a different # for it then Cessna/Univair?

BTW Univair's price is about 20% higher than others. All are outlandish!

I was fortunate as when I spotted the sheared off bolt/nut, I jacked up the tail and found the Scott T/W to be very loose at the bolt that attaches the T/W to the springs. I could hand remove the nut from the bolt!
A slight disaster was truly avoided. Not sure what I did to do this however. I'll now check the T/W - spring bolt with each pre-flight. I now have a pair of wrenches placed out so I will not have any excuse and won't have to rummage around for the proper wrenches.

Air Repair specializes in L-19 parts, many of which are identical to 170 parts except for the part number. It's best to just call them on the phone, talk to Pete and let him know what you want. He usually knows the corresponding part. While you're at it, replace that tailwheel attach bolt (AN7-20A) with the eye-bolt that L-19's use (PN 0642105). Makes it a lot easier to tie-down the tail, and it replaces your already stressed bolt with a new one.

Thanks for the great tips everyone. I tried AirRepair whom I obtained the eyebolt replacement to ease t/w tiedowns. Replacing that is what started this whole thing. They are shipping one out for $32 or so if I remember correctly. I called them before I saw the tips about jtaco.com.

My 1948 IPC shows a self-locking nut at this location. I'm not sure, but I might even have a castelated nut & cotter key on mine. Either way,it shouldn't come loose. Maybe you need a new nut.

Revive of an old thread to update some information. I needed a U bolt as others did years ago. As of today, for about $58, Air Repair has the L-19 cross of 170B part# 0510000-32, U bolt. The part number is 0642133 in L-19 language. Thanks to Air Repair in Mississippi!

Once again: 0510000-32 = 0642133
