Whitewalls

Post by n2582d »

Crew cut, white tee shirt, cat’s eye glasses, and whitewalls. Doesn’t get more 1950’s than this!

Do you think whitewalls were available back then or were these just painted?

 You never asked Cleo? This is the first picture I’ve ever seen of a 170—or any plane for that matter—with whitewalls. I’ll ask Desser.

Remember when J.C. Whitney sold fake white wall covers?

Don't ever remember seeing white walls on an airplane in the late 40's-50's. That doesn't mean they didn't exist. Anybody remember or have photos?

Here’s Tom Rutigliano’s reply:
Cool photo, those tires must have been a special order or as you mentioned painted. Manufactures would not put the time in to produce now.
A quick Google search shows that the Germans used whitewalls on BF-109’s in Africa.

Crew cuts ... flat tops ... I’m clearly no expert on ‘50’s haircuts. I’ll defer to you on this Richard!

Wow Richard! I can only assume they’ve combined the laser level with a barber’s clipper. Or maybe you slowly dip your hair upside down in an acid? That’s flat! This is all I could come up with online.
