I have a nifty non-contact temperature sensor. It cost less than $50, and even has a laser pointer. It is accurate on ice and boiling water.
When will we see something like this for airplanes. We could have a "non-invasive" indicator of exhaust stack temps, cylinder head temps, maybe even carb throat temps all without interfering with the engine operation.

RE: non-contact temperature sensor
I have the Radio Shack version (no pointer but cheaper).
I have found it to be very useful.
Of course, I don't use it on aircraft since it is not approved...

Temp Probe
Definitely would not want to use anything that didn't have FAA-PMA-USGOV-somebody's son-in-law's & the Pope's approval on an airplane!
