I am looking to buy an engine cover but there are several manufacturers. Do ya'll have any recommendations? Tannis, Kennon, etc?
Second thought. Anyone can fly to Alaska in June, how about a trip in Feb on straight skis all the way? Any takers?

I have a full set of covers from Alaska Wing Covers which is in Eagle River, Alaska. Her wing covers are more robust and the cowl cover fits better and has more insulation than Kennon. Linda makes good stuff.

As far as flying up here on straight skis in Feb. Getting gas is the hard part. Sure you can set down on any lake (maybe) but I think you will have some trouble at the larger airports with bare pavement, and sand/gravel on the hardpacked snow/ice. Seems like most maintained paved runways up here (where you can get gas) have patchy ice over bare spots of asphalt. If the runway is covered in hard ice and you land in windy conditions, you are in for way too much fun as well. One option would be to take the seaplane route up and land at rivers and lakes that have seaplane bases. The FBO's may not be open in the winter though.

Engine Covers
One alternative to purchasing a custom made engine/cowl cover is to use a couple of saddle blankets, they work pretty good on the 170. They fit well in the baggage area and have other uses as well.
