Boom Mic foam "thingies"

This may be a real stupid question - so feel free (as in no charge) to take pot-shots.

Due to some rather rough thermals I seem to be chewing off and swallowing the little foam thingies that are on the end of the mic (sound dampener).

Can't seem to find them in any of the catalogs or online - local Radio Shack does not have them.

Any ideas??

Chief aircraft has them. They are shown for a David Clark headset, but they are just the generic little "foam bags" with a draw string. Should work on most mics.

Most FBOs carry them.

Oregon also has little soft leather covers that will go over the foam part, it has holes front and back so the mics work.

Audio supply companies also carry them. Do an internet search for audio suppliers.

I should have a macro for my keyboard for all the times I tell folks to check out Aircraft Spruce. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/

They probably have a newer catalog out now, but my copy has 6 different foam mic-muffs listed on page 481 priced from $2.95 to $13 that apply to every brand/model headset out there.

Heres a few:

A whole bunch of the pilots that I work with buy foam hair rollers and cut them shorter. The small diameter ones that are about three inches long come in both baby blue and pink and a pack of 25 costs 2 or 3 bucks. A couple of whacks with the scissors and you'll have more foam thingies than you can ever eat.

Keith

Thank you all

One thing's for sure: If you use the pink ones your headset is less likely to be stolen!

I somehow knew my post would generate some humor - all appreciated in good faith - however the "fiber" has been really good for my cholesterol count
