2009 DULUTH C-170 CONVENTION (kinda)

Post by 170C »

I don't mean to jump the gun----well, maybe I do on second thought  . I saw the first itinerary for the upcoming convention and as usual I am pleased at the activities our fellow members have worked to get set up for us. THANKS :!: :!: We are really looking forward to visiting our northern most city on I-35. When will we be receiving the registration form for the convention :?:

Now to get on my soapbox-----I noticed that the mid-year notice is in the current Fly Paper. There is reference to its being held at the Grapevine Holiday Inn Express which is in Grapevine, TX and is immediately north/adjacent to D/FW airport. However, the notice mention the meeting being in Dallas  . Taint so folks---Grapevine is in Tarrant County and if a larger, nearby city should be used as a reference it should be FORT WORTH   As most informed folks know, Fort Worth is where the West Begins and dallas is where the east peters out 8) 8) 8) Nuff said

The only reason Dallas exists is so Yankees will not feel out of place when down South. Ft. Worth is a much more realistic representation of real Texas. You'd think Paul Wood would know better, since he lives WEST of Ft. Worth! (Or maybe he just thinks of everything EAST of Ft. Worth as being unworthy of being categorized as real Ft. Worth, Frank?

Maybe it would be best to say Grapevine is BETWEEN Dallas and Ft. Worth, NE of Ft Worth and NW of Dallas

Whenever I land in DFW, I always say welcome to Fort Worth in the arrival P.A.. About 99% of the time I will get at least 1 thank you for saying Fort Worth. You boys down there take your lines in the sand seriously.

Well anything south of the Mason-Dixon line is south and anything west of the Ohio River is, ...west.

I doubt I'll know or care whether I'm in Dallas or Fort Worth except of course one of those citys has a really bad football team. :)

That's not a football team. That's a disfunctional business owner.

I do know better and I DID NOT use the the D word in anything I submitted for the flypaper. We are meeting west of the airport and had it not been 30 bucks higher and no airport shuttle we would be meeting a few miles further west. We will endeavor to enlighten our executive secretary on the differences in Dallas and Fort Worth during the meeting. George, you read my mind quite well with that last sentence!

I would be one of those thanking you! I cringe every-time they welcome me to dallas.

Here's a fact: Dallas is NOT welcoming. They named a local toll road "President George Bush Turnpike".... yet when he showed up to reside in his new home, not even Dallas made any mention of it. (Sort of sums up my opinion on the subject. Condemns a lot of private land in the name of "public-domain", builds a road on the public land using private contractors, then awards the management to a private company who charges the public to drive on it. Yep. That's Dallas.)

All right already. We're going to Duluth for the convention and the mid-year is in Grapevine TX which is NOT Dallas. Pity anyone who might show up at Grapevine hoping to host a convention in Dallas cause that apparently won't sit well with the locals.

In case anyone doesn't know what "thread hijacking" means, this is it.

I believe Julius is still working out the costs of several events.

I told him that all the guys from TX are acclimated to working in 1 AMU so if he just charged $100 per event they'd think it was a bargain! But being the honest guy he is, he wants to nail down the correct costs.

I'm thinking he'll have it out soon!

Miles, it's against the rules to hi-jack an already-hi-jacked thread.

(But to be accurate... this thread was NEVER about the Duluth convention, it was about Dallas. Re-Read the first message that Frank posted.)

(I'll edit the subject-line to reflect that.)

It would appear that Frank hijacked his own thread in the very first post. That must be some kinda record!
