Would you return, with or without the "K"'s................Brad
Airnav.com don't need no stinkin' K's... That's because you can only plan airport-to-airport legs there, and it assumes any identifier entered is an airport. I use it mainly to plan "cheapest routes" as they maintain a database of fuel prices at airports. http://www.skyvector.com, on the other hand, allows point to point flight planning, using any points. If you enter a 3-letter alphabetic identifier that refers to both an airport and a VOR, it defaults to the VOR. To specify the airport, use the "K" (or the "P" if you happen to be referring to an airport in Alaska or Hawaii ).

C'mon now Gary, your gonna make him have to look up the 2-letter STATE identifiers (DON'T precede with a "K"!)

Go to http://www.airnav.com/plan/fuel/ and plan a flight. When you get done, look up at the internet address, and you'll see where you can type in your own identifiers.

Thanks, Gary. Actually, I remembered all of them except Jamestown, ND. I've never been there. I have pretty limited experience in North Dakota, but I used to fly a DC6 through Minot and Grand Forks on Logair. The next stop after Grand forks was DYT (in identifier speak). All I can remember about that route is that it was one really COLD SOB in the winter.

Jamestown was also the only place on that route I'd never heard of before. I just stuck it in because I've never flown into (or been to, for that matter) North Dakota. Jamestown looks like a neat little town. http://www.jamestownnd.com/ Also, I'll have the right to brag that I've been to Louis L'Amour's hometown and seen the world's largest buffalo.

Miles,
I had no idea that you were a reader (assuming) of Louis's work.....some of the best western fiction I read in my childhood......just seeing the end of your posts.....liking Mark Twain....I guess that I should have put two and two together ......Brad
Miles, why the jog north from Twin Falls to Butte? Is there not a valley trail north of Salt Lake that will take you on a more direct route to ND? The East West valley between Butte and Bozeman and onto ND was the route I took through the hills last year.
Ole Pokey,
Since I'm in the throes of having to salvage out my hearts delight C-170B, weather permitting , maybe I'll try to make it to duluth on my
trusty Vespa Granturismo 200cc scooter.

JIm,
Our plan is to leave at least a week before the convention and do some sightseeing along the way. The stop after Twin Falls is West Yellowstone and Karen and I want to spend a full day there. Leaving Yellowstone, there is SylvanPass east of Yellowstone, but it's 8500 ft, and they like for you to maintain 2000 ft above the wilderness area. I've flown in to Yellowstone from Bozeman before and that route is fairly easy.
If we were limited to 2 or 3 days to get there, I think I'd use my proven "southern route", via Tucson and El Paso, then northeast.
When are you leaving? Maybe we can join up somewhere along the way.
