Yes Dave the length was rather "novel" for the 170News but I enjoyed having something in the 170News to read and I even enjoyed the story with all the twists and turns.

I was thinking it was a shame George's story and Steve Jacobsons' were in the same issue. Articles are usually pretty thin and we need to spread them out between issues when we get them.

Bruce I agree with you. Both are outstanding stories! I wish I knew a state trooper who would have pulled George over taxing down the street The resto article was great too. I did enjoy the short one on Peggy Bonham...what a rich life she has had wow.

I just read the article this morning in the "man room".
I got to hand it to ole George, he really knows how to manipulate the ATC system... that was an interesting combo of IFR/VFR getting into Mena in that article. As a matter of fact, I paid more attention to that than what he wrote about the light installation itself.

Well alright I finished George’s Article. See I was trying to read on my 12 hr flight from Arkansas to Alaska and just kept falling to sleep on about the 3rd page. I’d start over and fall asleep on the 3rd page again. I’d read 18 pages of light bulb installation by the time I gave up. On the 4th page starts a new topic of landing in Class E Airspace (MEZ). That’s where Class E goes all the way to the surface, on this particular day, because of the bad weather. See I’ve learned something here. And the 5th page begins the baggage door installation, which George made sounds so exciting that I’ve got to have one.

It is a very good article and it sure helps me to see so many pictures, showing the work in detail. Now I’m on to Cleo’s “Inspections” and Steve’s “Restoring a Basket Case” articles. Already read Steve’s great colored pictures.

It finally hit me (while reading the article), where I’d met Earl Eastabrooks. He never came to Petit Jean, so I couldn’t figure out how in the world I knew of him. I’d met him at Palestine, TX, at my uncles. I just verified that it was Earl, who was trying to figure out a way to land in my uncle’s backyard, a few years back. Unfortunately, I just broke the news to my uncle & aunt! My uncle and aunt had been very close to the Eastabrook’s. My uncle was a navigator and in the 13th Bomb Squadron, with Earl, and so they spent a lot of their career’s together. They lived in the Philippines together, spent their vacations together, traveling to places like Hong Kong. I mentioned the article, from the 170 News, and my uncle retold it to me, with more colorful detail.
