Cessna DID build a glider, the CG-2:

Here's a pic of Clyde's son, Eldon, flying it:

Cessna built helicopters, too. They still hold the piston-powered altitude record.

This would be a cool replica project. But does the FAA offer a glider seaplane rating?

Yep, now that Bruce has that fat insurance check in his pocket, if he REALLY wanted a project, he would find a Cessna helicopter and restore it back to airworthy condition and fly that to the convention! Unfortunately Cessna recalled all of the helicopters it sold and destroyed them. Apparently the main problem with them was the engine exhaust. They could never get it right for some reason. I have looked at every museum I have ever been to and have never seen an example of a military or commercial Cessna helicopter. Apparently Cessna was very thorough.

From what I can find on the web, the only remaining copy is at the Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

The first linked site said as John has confirmed the Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker Alabama has the only remaining example. I recall seeing it. I was a Warrant Officer Candidate (WOC) in 1986 and our housing was right across the street from the collection of buildings that housed the museum collection before the current museum building was built.

As a WOC we were always "volunteered" for car washes and other fund raising activities for the museum building fund. If we weren't being hazed by the Training, Advising, and Counseling (TAC) Officers, studying, on the flight line, or sleeping, we could be found at the museum because it was in our limited range of allowed movement. Lots and lots of interesting stuff there. One of these days I'll get back there and visit the "new" museum which is now about 23 years old.

Looks like a trip to Ft. Rucker is in order.
