Willie-
You probably missed those posts but Blueldr doesn't do identifiers!!! :D :D He's old school, wants city/airport names. Can't say I disagree, I don't like looking them up either, at least city names are on a map index!

I hope those airplanes got put away before the snow hit.

Hey, you got that instrument rating yet? Looks like good weather for studying.

It was cold in Fredericksburg, Texas today too, down to 60°F, had to wear a long sleeve shirt to work on the DC-3. 8O 8O

When are y'all gonna come visit?

Blueldr hasen't found any identifiers in his Rand McNally. George can tell you about what happens when you just use town names. He landed in the right town wrong state on the way to the convention this year  Bill K

I have to wonder if Blueldr is speaking from experience when he says it looks like jail.

Geesh! Why is it that MY excursions get so well known???

(And why is it not seen as WILDharber's (jwild) methodology in not stressing ARKANSAS instead of Missouri?)

The REST of the story: Jamie and I were to spend the evening and next day at a B&B in Mountain Vew, meeting up with Jim and Lolly. A week earlier, while visiting with them on the phone, Jim was telling me all about how nice the area was and Lolly (on the extension) and as I heard it said, " ...(garbled) MISSOURI, not to be confused with ARKANSAS, so don't get them mixed up." "OK", I responded.

Jim and Lolly were ahead of us because Jamie and I had visited and lunched with Del Lehmann at Mena, AR. After lunch we took off to meet up with them.
While descending to land at Mountain View MO ...I had radio'ed ahead for fuel and was instructed to taxi straight to the fuel pumps. While taxying I noticed that WILD-man's airplane was not on the ramp as expected, and figured he'd had it put in a hangar...so I got on the cell phone to advise him we were taxying in to the ramp.

At this point a little weiner-dog was happily trotting out to the pumps, followed by an old man (at least he was older than ME...) just as WILD-man answered his cell and told me that he and Lolly were waiting for me on the ramp and that I certainly was not at Mountain View ARKANSAS!
"What..???..!!!", I thought.

Jim went on to remark that the airport IDENTIFIER was 7M2 . I had landed at KMNF! (So, you see, bluEldr... identifiers CAN be defining.)

While still taxying I entered the ID (7M2) and found myself to be 70 miles North of where Jim and Lolly were standing...so I continued to taxi, ...rolling right past the pumps, dog, and old man...back onto the runway and took off opposite direction from that I'd just landed. (direct crosswind, either way) We landed at Mountain Vew ARKANSAS about a half-hour later, with much perplexion over the miscommunication.

I can only surmise that the (garbled) beginning of Lolly's telephone statement was likely ..."" ...((there's also a Mountain Vew,) MISSOURI, not to be confused with ARKANSAS, so don't get them mixed up." ...which is exactly what I did.

PS: Anyone landing at KMNF, please tell the old man standing at the pumps with a beWILDered look that I won't be needing fuel after-all.

I think John R at Lake Elmo Mn. (21D) finally received more snow than we did Lake Benton Mn (not on the Chart but close to KBKX)

The way it looks we might not see John until spring thaw........ I think he has skis though

Yep! Friday I put the skis on the J3. Yesterday and today have been all about getting the house shoveled out, getting the cars out to the street, etc. Tomorrow I'll see about digging out the hangar. It's actually a little early for skis, because the ice isn't thick enough on the lakes yet. I don't like to land on them until I can see plenty of trucks out there!

Dang - it's just too early for winter in MN! After moving snow for 3 hours today I got in the truck and went to the airport. It will be at least a day before the snow is moved away from the hangars. And we've got 1/2 inch of ice underneath so everything's slippery.

Dubya - guess we better fire up our birds and head South! But before I do that I'm going to catch up with John sometime and go for a ride in his cub on skiis.

Merry Christmas to all our 170 friends! It will be a white one in Minnesnowta.

I think John should make a trip out this way, he could stop by you first and give you a ride then off to my place...... you can still see the tops of the cones, he could land here and we could get a picture of him outside the same window :D
