The International Cessna^® 170 Association

907, 502, Fearless, Biffj and anyone else that has recently join this forum, I would like to say a "Big Welcome". It is exciting to see an increase in interest not only in the 170 but in it's club as well. Participation is important to keep things alive and well so jump in and say what's on your mind then.............duck and cover Not really.
I think I will always feel like a new guy because I always want to be learning something new about aeroplanes and I continue to ask questions too. There are GREAT people here like John Hess who in another thread said he bought his first plane at 67, that's INSPIRING to me, and you have George, Bruce, blueldr and a few others that have forgotten more about the 170 than what most people will learn, and they are more than willing to help you out with the tough questions........just be careful when they start talking about the left handed monkey wrenches..........

I'll add a SECOND to Willie's welcome. We appreciate all you "new" guys joining the association and forums. You may ask questions that have been asked and answered previously, but that is OK as it helps some of us remember some of the things we have forgotten and it keeps us from having to ask the same question for the umteenth time So continue to ask questions until you get the answers. In almost every case you will eventually get the information you are needing. For those of you who have joined the 170 association I would encourage you to find out who your state representative is and get to know them and participate in any fly ins they may be planning. For those who haven't joined the association I would urge you to do so. You don't know what you are missing. That is another good way to learn more about your 170. Finally, when you can, plan to attend one of our annual conventions. They are a lot of fun, informative and you get to know a lot of super nice folks.

Thanks for the welcome. Its always nice to feel like the newbies aren't an annoyance but an asset. Thats not the case with a lot of internet boards anymore.

I've been around 170's for a long time and always liked them. I lived in Roswell in the early 90's but moved out just in time to miss the convention there. I spent a lot of time flying with the Benedicts back when they were forced to fly the 175 taildragger instead of a respectable 170. (what a nice plane that was) I watched Tom build the Cygnet and got a ride in it when finished.
Most of my 170 experience comes from flying 3065A, a B model belonging to TW at the time. We had some pretty good times flying around and they (the Toms) were pretty patient with us slowpokes flying in my Taylorcraft and Larry's 140. I've been out of aviation for a while due to work and other distractions but I'm back flying again and hate renting. Thanks for the help and guidance as well as the welcome.

I got that checkout back in the 70's when I was at military school there. By the time I came back in 89 the UFO's were all gone or should I say we were the ufo's. There was a good tower controller there that frequently let me take off on 21R too...to those who don't know the airport 21R is the UFO only runway that leads straight from my tiedown into the air. I sometimes made the first turnoff on 21L and that screwed with the tower guys too. They always accused me of landing on the taxiway. They couldn't believe anyone could make the first turnoff as it was only about 300ft from the displaced threshold. A decent breeze down the runway and a light T-cart made that easy.

N3065A, my buddy from Air Guards and neighbor owns that plane. It is alive and doing well currently on straight skis. BTW, he's a member here again with a little prodding from me.

I joined the forum over 2 years ago,before purchasing HVS and became a member just after. I know this makes me new compared to most . Seriously though, you made me realise that I don't chime in enough and contribute to the discussions. I follow the forums very closely, just don't put the keyboard to use often enough! This truly is a great association to be part of, with the vast knowledge bank and willingness to share and help each other out.

The Benedicts are about a good long 170 flying day from me, and I've stayed with them several times on eastbound trips. Lyn and Tom always seem happy to offer a "bed and a bean" for 170 folks. If you are a member, go to the members only page and check the cover of the 4th quarter 2004 of the 170 News to see what Larry is flying these days.

Thats a pretty plane. I was speaking with the former owner of 65A last night and he mentioned that Larry was flying a 170 just like Dad. The 140 is waiting for the little guy to start flying. I haven't seen him since he was just a toddler but it sounds like Bax is driving and ready to cause his folks some sleepless nights. I sure miss flying down there where the runways are measured in miles (width or length) and the towers are few though a lot of the clouds have rocks in them. Indiana is pretty bleak for that sort of stuff. Towers everywhere, no where to land because corn is pretty hard on wings. On the other hand, the 172 is a 4 place down here and the number you see on the airspeed indicator is pretty much what you get when you figure true airspeed...lots of air down here.

Nice to hear 65A is still flying too.

I'm new to the boards and proud owner of a C-170. You guys don't know it but these boards have already been invauleable to me as part of my ownership experience. The wealth of information here has served me well durring the purchase and first year of maintenance for N4260V. I figured I'd sign up and do what little I could to contribute to the forums.

I think it's a GREAT suggestion for everyone to get to know their state representative** ...and to get them involved in FLY IN's. I'd also suggest everyone get to know their AREA REPRESENTATIVES (List of them is found inside the front cover of the Directory) and help them to host-and-participate in AREA FLY IN's.

**State Representatives are like Congressmen/Congresswomen, except on the state-legislature level.

Area Representatives are Int'l Cessna 170 Assoc'n (TIC170A) volunteers who help organize/host Fly In's and promote TIC170A.

(Heh-Heh...nice effort, tho' Frank.)
