History of Airframe Ser. #26115, currently N401F

Post by tslemerand »

Hi all, new member here, my name is Tom. I'm an IA from Southeast Michigan. I'm doing some research for John, a friend of mine. Back in 1962 his 65 year old grandfather Clifford Hill, was a student pilot and bought what was then N1970C, a 170B serial number 26115. John recently showed me a picture of the aircraft from then, his students license and the bill of sale. John recollects that he thinks his grandfather sold the plane in the late 60's, but would like to know what happened to it since then. All I have been able to find is the current owner info and registration, and a record of a hard landing/crash that happened on 2/2/1970. Don't know if the current owner frequents this site or not, but if any of you know him I'd like to get in touch with him. Thanks in advance for any help filling in the historical gaps.

oops, I guess you already know this. I thought you meant that you only had the owner info from the time it was crashed. Re-reads can make a big difference.

There's no Easley, nor an airplane with that serial # and/or registration listed in the current 170 Association Directory. For $10 you can obtain a CD from the FAA containing all records on file in OK City for that airplane. That might give you a clue as to other owners in the airplane's history.

http://www.faa.gov and go to aircraft registrations and you can do a free historical search on aircraft prior registrations (as long as it was continuously registered within the U.S.)
