Geez, you call that snow??? You don't even need a tail ski. As a matter of fact, your ski tracks and foot prints look like you could be operating on wheels alone.

Sure, had to point that out, didn't ya

Been a real dry winter so far. I am looking forward to trying these in "real" snow though 8)

What type of skis are those, anyhow? Can't say I've ever seen anything like them.

They are Schneider 4000"s. Rather heavy on the scheme of things and puts the CG just a bit on the forward side, but I am enjoying them. This is my first year of ever skiplane flying and I am enjoying it - though Tuesday was only my second time out. Ice is about 12-14" here but cold nights and cold days are making more ice. I haven't been out ice fishing yet but plan to soon. I know what you mean about thick ice - though I have yet to need an extension. I have hand drilled all the way up to the handle though (power augers not allowed in the boundary waters :( ). You don't drill too many holes.

You need skis for winter. How else are you going to go off the ski jump?

He must be south of the range. Here we have squat  but folks further south have been getting pounded. I haven't been in any hurry to get skis because I don't need 'em and can't use 'em 'til we get more snow.

We've gotten about a foot in the last week in the Birchwood/Anchorage area and my deck which has not been shovelled has 20" of settled/packed snow. With the bitter cold early in the winter to set the ice in the lakes and now with the snow, things are just about perfect for ski flying.

20" settled/packed snow on deck
