Geez, you call that snow??? You don't even need a tail ski. As a matter of fact, your ski tracks and foot prints look like you could be operating on wheels alone.

Sure, had to point that out, didn't ya
Been a real dry winter so far. I am looking forward to trying these in "real" snow though
they look like schnider 4000? i just got my airplane on a set of federal 3000 hyd. have not flown it yet either to cold or to snowy/windy or just plain have to work How thick is your ice? the ice out on the river here in alaska is well over 4 ft. need a large extension on the ice auger.
They are Schneider 4000"s. Rather heavy on the scheme of things and puts the CG just a bit on the forward side, but I am enjoying them. This is my first year of ever skiplane flying and I am enjoying it - though Tuesday was only my second time out. Ice is about 12-14" here but cold nights and cold days are making more ice. I haven't been out ice fishing yet but plan to soon. I know what you mean about thick ice - though I have yet to need an extension. I have hand drilled all the way up to the handle though (power augers not allowed in the boundary waters ). You don't drill too many holes.
You pilots down south don't know what you are missing !
Just today I was talking with my friend whom bought our home when we left Alaska. He was whining about how much snow he had shoveled this year. I'll match your and raise you

He must be south of the range. Here we have squat but folks further south have been getting pounded. I haven't been in any hurry to get skis because I don't need 'em and can't use 'em 'til we get more snow.

We've gotten about a foot in the last week in the Birchwood/Anchorage area and my deck which has not been shovelled has 20" of settled/packed snow. With the bitter cold early in the winter to set the ice in the lakes and now with the snow, things are just about perfect for ski flying.
