Re: Same Window .....Different Season
I hear that W, we're up to 52" so far this winter. running out of places to throw it, my driveway looks like a tunnel
luckily for me it's time to head south, our yearly week in Cancun starts Saturday. I'll check the temp at home before we return and if it's too cold I'm going to get a job flying the banner-towing ultralights that fly over the beach all day, I think I could handle that until it thaws up here in June

All I know is ........once you get to -15 it doesn't really matter if it gets colder...... next week they are talking that we may even stay above zero
......
Gar
Did that little bit of winter we sent your way, make it to your house?
W. says: It's Cold
Everybody says: How cold is it?
W. says: Why it's so cold , I saw a cottontail chasing a jack-rabbit just to jumpstart it.........

An old farmer lived right close to the border between the two Dakotas, but the tax assessors always said his farm was in ND. One day the state highway department decided to widen the highway near his farm so they sent out a surveyor. A few days later the surveyor came to tell the farmer, "You know, we did a lot of measurements with our new GPS system and we've discovered that you really don't live in North Dakota after all. You live in South Dakota!" "Well Thank God!" replied the old farmer. "I don't think I could stand another one of them North Dakota winters!"

Yesterday,
Ft. Yukon -56°F
Ketchikan +43°F
Difference 99°F
Today, Ft. Yukon did not report, speculation has it that the thermometer froze.

It was 30 below at Lake Elmo, MN (my airport, 21D) at 7:30 yesterday morning. We usually don't get it that cold. 43 below in International Falls, on the Canadian border.

So you'd probably fly the J3 with the door closed John?

I guess it could be opened briefly for a photograph. The wind-chill factor in a J3 isn't that great, after all!Bruce Fenstermacher wrote:So you'd probably fly the J3 with the door closed John?

Ah the photo pass. Yes on days like that I like to taxi past the FBO and wave at the lounge lizards who can't believe I've got the door open. For the icing on the cake I leave it open for departure (if the door is facing them). Great (but cold) fun.

Re: Same Window .....Different Season
A couple weeks ago I could not stand it anymore. Had to go flying. 4 below zero here in Montana. Long johns, wool pants and carhardt insulated bib overalls. Had a nice 3 hour flight but could not bend my knees the entire time. Thought if I crashed I should be fine as I was well padded. No need for those newfangled air bags. Might have to sell the A model and get a B as I hear you can almost tell the heater is working in a B model at these temps. Steve

You should start the "Polar Bear Aviators Club" and do it naked! (But don't post a pic.....we don't wanna see!)Bruce Fenstermacher wrote:Ah the photo pass.
